Iran’s IRGC warns Washington, says US military presence in Gulf has declined

TEHRAN, Aug. 12 (YPA) – The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced a reduction in the US military presence in the Gulf, stating that the area is currently clear of American warships compared to 30 to 40 vessels prior to the “Ramadan War” in February 2026, according to IRGC spokesman Brig. Gen. Hossein Mohebbi.

Mohebbi warned that any new threat against Iran would jeopardize global energy supply lines, power stations, and global internet infrastructure and systems. He added that the decline in US armaments and capabilities in the Pacific region, relative to Russia and China, poses a major threat to Washington.

The statement follows remarks by US President Donald Trump indicating that his country had entered into negotiations with Iran—describing Iranian bargaining as “cunning and astute”—and comes after US military strikes against Iran between July 8 and July 23 in response to Iranian targeting of commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
