Saudi-backed forces are unable to reopen streets of Mukalla

MUKALLA, July 25 (YPA) – Dozens of angry protesters blocked several main streets on Saturday in Mukalla city, the capital of Saudi-controlled Hadramout Governorate in eastern Yemen, demonstrating against security chaos and increasing highway robberies targeting local travelers on Abyan’s coastal road.

Demonstrators erected roadblocks in front of fuel and cargo tankers in the “40 Shqa” area of the Al-Sharj district, halting traffic. The action came in response to an incident early Friday in the Ahwar district of southern Abyan, where an armed gang severed the ear of a bus driver from Hadramout, identified as Muhammad Omar Jumaan Bin Khamis.

Participants condemned the armed ambushes targeting Hadramout residents along the coastal route. Meanwhile, Saudi-backed forces failed to reopen Mukalla’s primary thoroughfares to cargo traffic traveling to and from Abyan.

Mukalla residents called on local authorities in Abyan to arrest the perpetrators and secure the coastal road for travelers from Hadramout.
