Damascus blast leaves 7 dead, 22 injured

DAMASCUS, July 02 (YPA) – The death toll from an explosion that rocked central Damascus on Thursday has risen to seven killed and 22 injured, according to the Syrian Transitional Government’s Ministry of Health, as security services continue investigations into the circumstances of the incident.

The “Syrian News” channel reported that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device detonated inside a café near the Palace of Justice, resulting in multiple casualties. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, while emergency and ambulance teams remain on high alert.

Security forces sealed off the area and closed surrounding roads as forensic and investigation teams began examining the site to determine the cause of the explosion and identify those responsible. Ambulances continued transporting the wounded to nearby hospitals.

In a related development, Syrian media outlets reported the arrest of a suspect allegedly planning to target the Palace of Justice shortly after the café explosion, suggesting the possible prevention of a second attack. However, no official details have yet been released regarding the identity of the detainee or the nature of the alleged plan.
