ADEN, July 01 (YPA) – The General Federation of Trade Unions has announced the launch of its initial escalatory measures in the city of Aden aimed at overthrowing the Saudi-backed “Leadership Council,” headed by “Rashad al-Alimi.”
The move comes in protest against the sharp deterioration of living conditions and basic services in areas under Saudi control, amid warnings of mounting popular and syndicate outrage over power outages exceeding 16 hours a day.
Key declared measures and demands:
• Protests and open-ended sit-ins: Commencing with protest rallies outside the UN headquarters and the office of the UN Envoy in Aden, with threats to transition into an open-ended sit-in. A formal grievance letter will be delivered, containing documents indicting the government for corruption and economic collapse.
• Dismissal of the Government and Council: Demanding the dismissal of the Presidential Leadership Council and the ousting of Saudi-backed government, whose measures—coordinated with the Saudi Special Committee—were described as “superficial and improvised.”
• Immediate Economic Reforms: Promptly revoking the decision to raise customs tariffs, comprehensively restructuring the wage and salary scale to align with inflation, and ensuring the inclusion of trade unions in decisions affecting workers’ livelihoods to curb skyrocketing prices.
