SANAA, June 30 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based government announced plans to intensify its anti-narcotics campaign, vowing stricter enforcement against trafficking networks and a comprehensive legislative review to close legal loopholes.
Speaking at a Ministry of Interior event marking World Anti-Drug Day, acting Prime Minister Mohammad Miftah declared that Yemen would not be used as a transit country for illicit substances. Miftah announced that the government, in coordination with the parliament and Shura council, is drafting new legislation to counter drug trafficking and cyber-extortion.
In his address, Miftah accused the United States, “Israel”, and Saudi Arabia of deliberately facilitating drug proliferation to target Yemeni youth, specifically blaming Riyadh for the rise of narcotics in areas controlled by Saudi-backed forces.
Deputy Minister of Interior, Major General Abdul-Majid Al-Mortada, urged the public to deny social cover to traffickers, praising local tribes for implementing traditional honor pacts to isolate individuals involved in the drug trade and assist security forces.
