Two civilians survive assassination attempt in Yemen’s Dhalea

DHALEA, June 30 (YPA) – Two civilians survived an apparent assassination attempt on Tuesday after unidentified armed men opened fire on their vehicle in the center of Qaatabah city in Yemen’s Dhalea province, amid continued security unrest in areas controlled by Saudi-backed factions.

A local source said masked gunmen unleashed a barrage of gunfire at a vehicle transporting qat near the Al-Bouri station in central Qaatabah. The driver and his companion escaped the attack unharmed.

The source added that the vehicle sustained extensive damage, with one bullet striking the water tank and several others hitting different parts of the vehicle.

According to the source, the city has recently witnessed the movement of masked armed elements believed to be linked to the extremist group al-Qaeda, who were allegedly recruited into armed formations affiliated with Saudi-backed forces in Dhalea.

The attack sparked panic among residents and nearby shopkeepers, prompting calls for the perpetrators to be identified and brought to justice.

Local residents also warned that the continued presence of armed groups and criminal activity threatens social stability in the city.

The incident comes amid worsening security conditions and increasing activity by armed groups in Dhalea and other areas under the control of Saudi-funded factions.
