Jabalia Municipality warns of imminent water system collapse

GAZA, June 30 (YPA) – The Municipality of Jabalia al-Nazla, in the northern Gaza Strip, has warned of an imminent collapse of the area’s water system, issuing an urgent appeal to international organizations, humanitarian agencies, and local and international partners to intervene immediately and rescue the water sector amid a severe operational crisis that threatens to deprive thousands of residents of access to clean water.

In a news statement, the municipality said that the continued power outage and the depletion of energy sources needed to operate the main and secondary water wells are pushing the area toward a humanitarian, health, and environmental catastrophe.

Several wells have already stopped functioning, raising the risk of a complete disruption of water supplies to all neighborhoods of Jabalia in the near future.

The statement explained that maintaining water facilities and essential services requires the urgent provision of mobile power generators.

It said it needs to rent two 7 KVA generators, three 15 KVA generators, one 50 KVA generator, and one 110 KVA generator, describing them as the only currently available means to restart the wells and ensure the continued pumping of water to residents.

The statement called on humanitarian organizations and donor agencies to act immediately by providing the necessary funding or securing the required generators, warning that any delay in response would deepen the humanitarian crisis and increase the health and environmental risks facing the population.

The warning comes as the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate due to ongoing Israeli restrictions on the entry of fuel, spare parts, and lubricants needed to operate vehicles and equipment.

The restrictions have directly affected the operation of water facilities and other vital services, further worsening the suffering of hundreds of thousands of residents living under extremely harsh conditions.
