50 Israeli soldiers deployed in “Somaliland”

MOGADISHU, June 23 (YPA) – About 50 Israeli occupation soldiers were deployed in the breakaway region of Somaliland earlier this year, following security agreements that followed “Israel’s” recognition of the region, according to a senior Somali government official quoted by Middle East Eye.

Reports indicate that the move is part of escalating covert security cooperation and coincided with the appointment of an Israeli ambassador to Hargeisa and the expansion of coordination between the two sides, in addition to leaks regarding the potential use of logistical facilities in the region.

In contrast, the Somaliland defense minister denied the existence of an Israeli military base, while acknowledging cooperation in training and security support. These developments have sparked widespread regional criticism and raised questions about their implications for Red Sea security.
