BURGENSTOCK, June 21 (YPA) – Talks between the United States and Iran are set to begin on Sunday at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland under Pakistani sponsorship, as part of the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” which seeks to lay the groundwork for a broader settlement aimed at easing tensions between Washington and Tel Aviv amid rising regional developments.
US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Switzerland to participate in the talks, while CNN, citing a diplomatic source, reported that that Lebanon will be the first topic addressed at the talks.
An Iranian delegation headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has arrived in Switzerland to pursue implementation of commitments contained in a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding recently signed between the Islamic Republic and the US.
The talks are expected to focus primarily on Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions imposed on Tehran.
Pakistan set to participate in the negotiations with a delegation that includes Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its support for implementing understandings between Tehran and Washington, adding that Sharif is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several participating delegations on the sidelines of the talks.
