Pakistani mediation in Tehran to push stalled Iranian-US talks forward

TEHRAN, June 20 (YPA) – Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi has arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on a diplomatic visit aimed at following up on and advancing the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic and the United States.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that the visit complements Islamabad’s efforts regarding this file, noting that Naqvi is scheduled to meet with his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

These developments come at a time when Tehran has suspended its participation in a round of negotiations that was scheduled to take place in Geneva last Friday, in protest against ongoing Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon. Consequently, Iran has yet to make a decision on dispatching its negotiating delegation to Switzerland.

Notably, this anticipated round of talks is the first following the signing of a memorandum of understanding to end the war by the presidents of both nations. The talks aim to reach a final agreement addressing the nuclear file within a renewable 60-day deadline, amid active diplomatic movements in Switzerland by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, alongside Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani as a key mediator.
