Germany deploys vessels to Red Sea ahead of potential Hormuz mine-clearing mission

BERLIN, June 18 (YPA) – Germany has announced the deployment of two naval vessels to the Red Sea amid preparations for a possible mine-clearing mission in the Strait of Hormuz.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the minesweeper Fulda and the support vessel Moselle have been dispatched and are currently transiting the Suez Canal en route to the Red Sea.

Speaking upon his arrival at a NATO meeting in Brussels, Pistorius said the vessels are being positioned in anticipation of a potential operation to remove mines from the strategic waterway.

He noted that any such mission would require the consent of both Iran and Oman and would also depend on the outcome of ongoing diplomatic talks between Tehran and Washington.

The deployment comes amid heightened international attention on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies and international trade.
