HADRAMOUT, June 17 (YPA) – The Saudi-controlled Hadramawt Electricity Authority announced on Wednesday a strict rationing schedule for Mukalla and other coastal districts amid ongoing power shortages.
The plan includes six hours of electricity cuts followed by just two hours of supply, coinciding with an intense summer heatwave affecting Hadramawt’s coastal and desert areas.
Residents are expected to face up to 18 hours of daily power outages, with only around six hours of intermittent electricity, fueling widespread public anger following recent protests over deteriorating services, during which demonstrators called for the removal of the Saudi-backed authorities.
Hadramawt’s power infrastructure has remained in a state of severe deterioration since 2016, struggling to meet rising demand despite repeated promises of improvement. Public frustration continues to grow, with increasing calls for urgent action to secure fuel for power plants and implement sustainable solutions to address the worsening service crisis.
