Chile establishes parliamentary friendship group with Palestine

SANTIAGO, June 14 (YPA) – The Chilean Senate announced the establishment of the Chilean-Palestinian Friendship Group with the participation of 28 senators, with the aim of strengthening political, diplomatic, cultural, and humanitarian relations between the two countries.

The group is one of the broadest frameworks of parliamentary diplomacy in Congress and reflects a cross-party political consensus in support of Palestine.

Its president, Senator Sergio Gahona, said that it embodies Chile’s position in foreign policy and its commitment to human rights, international law, and peace, and that the broad participation confirms that the relationship with Palestine is a shared moral responsibility.

This comes as Congress discusses a bill to declare January 7 as a day of friendship and solidarity with the Palestinian people, commemorating Chile’s recognition of the State of Palestine in 2011.
