11 “Al-Amaliqa” fighters killed in explosion at Aden’s “Al-Solban” Camp amid accusations of looting stores
ADEN, June 11 (YPA) – At least 11 members of the “Al-Amaliqa” (Giants) brigades were killed and others wounded, at midnight last Wednesday, following a violent explosion triggered by a fire of “unknown origin” in an arms depot at Al-Solban camp in Aden’s Sheikh Othman district.
The blast caused widespread panic among local residents, who renewed their demands to remove military barracks and weapon stores from residential areas.
Amid conflicting reports regarding the cause of the incident, political activist Adel Al-Hasani leveled direct accusations against the commander of the “First Al-Amaliqa Division,” the Salafi leader Raed Al-Habhi, describing the explosion as a calculated “theatric play” designed to cover up extensive weapons looting.
According to Al-Hasani, the detonation was timed to conceal shortages in the depots before the completion of a comprehensive inventory ordered by Saudi Arabia and led by the commander of the “Fourth Military Region,” Hamdi Shukri Al-Subaihi.
This follows allegations that Al-Habhi—acting on orders from Abu Dhabi—had moved massive quantities of weapons aboard 23 transport trucks to unknown locations in Dhalea, Radfan, and Yafea, following the dissolution of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) last January.
