SOHR: Detainee dies inside Syrian government detention center days after his arrest

DAMASCUS, June 07 (YPA) – A young man from Barouhah village in Talkalakh countryside in Homs countryside, died a detention center run by the Syrian caretaker government, days after having been arrested by security forces, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.

According to SOHR, the incident caused outrage and discontent among residents, especially since it comes only a year after the death of his brother under mysterious circumstances.

Residents demand a full disclosure of the facts and accountability for those responsible.

This comes in light of violations committed against detainees in detention centers, amid growing calls to guarantee the safety of prisoners and uphold their human and legal rights.

Since the beginning of 2026, SOHR has documented the death of 11 people under torture inside Syria’s government prisons.
