CAIRO, June 06 (YPA) – Hamas and other Palestinian factions are set to begin meetings on Saturday in Egypt’s El Alamein city to discuss ways to break the deadlock in negotiations and advance to the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, amid continued Israeli intransigence and ongoing attacks across the Gaza Strip despite mediation efforts.
Faction leaders are also expected to review a proposal submitted by Nikolay Mladenov, Executive Director of the “Peace Council,” and formulate a unified response. Palestinian factions continue to reject any move toward the second phase of the ceasefire agreement before all commitments outlined in the first phase are fully implemented.
The current round marks the third official series of talks since the ceasefire agreement was reached.
Palestinian factions remain committed to several key demands, including the dismantling of armed militias formed in cooperation with “Israel”, withdrawal beyond the so-called “Yellow Line,” implementation of the humanitarian protocol, increased aid deliveries, unrestricted movement through the Rafah crossing, and an end to assassinations, shelling, and daily shooting incidents.
Delegations representing Palestinian factions began arriving in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Friday ahead of the latest round of negotiations on the Gaza ceasefire agreement, amid continued escalation and repeated Israeli violations since the deal was signed in October 2025.
According to sources, Hamas’ delegation will include the movement’s negotiating team headed by Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas leader in Gaza, alongside senior officials including Zaher Jabarin, Hamas chief in the West Bank, and Political Bureau member Ghazi Hamad.
Sources told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper that Egyptian mediators requested the attendance of Hamas’ leadership council, which includes Shura Council Chairman Mohammed Darwish, in addition to al-Hayya, Khaled Meshaal, Jabarin, and senior Hamas official Nizar Awadallah.
The participation of the leadership council will depend on the outcome of the meetings scheduled to continue through Monday, after which a separate meeting with mediators is expected to discuss implementation of the agreement amid persistent obstacles that hindered previous rounds of talks.
Meanwhile, “Israel” and Mladenov continue to insist that Hamas formally declare the disarmament of its fighters before reconstruction efforts can begin and before the national committee tasked with administering Gaza is permitted to operate. This condition is firmly rejected by Hamas and other Palestinian factions.
