TEHRAN, May 18 (YPA) – Member of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, has stated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to international commercial shipping and not for military build-up, warning of consequences should any escalation or maritime blockade against Iran occur.
In remarks published on Sunday, Rezaei claimed that the Iranian army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confronted US forces during a previous incident in the Strait of Hormuz, alleging that a US warship sustained significant damage from Iranian missile strikes. He added that Washington has been concealing the incident.
In a separate statement, Rezaei noted that US President Donald Trump failed to secure a “successful deal” with China despite his business background, arguing that Beijing was able to achieve significant gains during that period.
Rezaei stressed that any continuation of a maritime blockade on Iran would widen economic damage and affect multiple countries around the world.
