UN Rapporteur criticizes western media over coverage of Gaza journalists’ killings

GAZA, May 11 (YPA) – Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, criticized Western media outlets on Monday over their silence regarding the killing of Palestinian journalists in Gaza Strip.

In posts published on her X account, Albanese questioned the absence of Western and Italian press coverage as the deaths of Palestinian journalists continue, asking why, in her view, major media institutions have not given sufficient attention to the situation.

She also criticized sections of the press she described as lacking seriousness or independence.

In a separate post, Albanese praised the position of Spain, describing it as consistent with international law and supportive of multilateral institutions, including the United Nations and the International Criminal Court, while resisting external political pressure and sanctions.
