Trump: I expect the war with Iran to end quickly

WASHINGTON, May 07 (YPA) – US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he expects the war with Iran to end quickly, amid US efforts to reach a deal over the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program.

Trump made this statement during a tele-rally supporting Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate Burt Jones.

“When you look at the kind of things that are happening, we are doing that for one very important reason: We cannot allow them to have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.

He added: “I think most people understand that. They understand that what we are doing is right and it will end soon.”

Earlier in the day, Trump said it was too early to consider direct talks between the United States and Iran, amid reports that the two sides are moving closer to a potential agreement to end the conflict.

The comments come as Iran has officially launched a new mechanism to manage maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, designating a safe passage route.

Meanwhile, US media outlets and news agencies reported on Wednesday that Washington has presented a one-page proposal containing 14 points aimed at ending the war on Iran, with the US expecting a response from Tehran within 48 hours on several key issues.
