WAHINGTON, April 27 (YPA) – U.S. Democratic Representative Ted Lieu said Monday that recent fighting highlighted vulnerabilities in American overseas military positions, noting that Iranian forces were able to inflict “serious damage” on several U.S. bases in the region.
In remarks shared on social media, Lieu called for a reassessment of Washington’s defense strategy, warning that in any prolonged conflict with major powers such as China or Russia, U.S. foreign bases could face significant risks and supply shortages.
His comments came in reference to the recent escalation involving Iran and the United States, which saw heightened military exchanges over several weeks.
Analysts said the developments have reignited debate in Washington over military readiness, force protection, and the sustainability of extended overseas deployments.
