Hamas calls for municipal elections to be step towards renewing legitimacy of Palestinian Political System

GAZA, April 25 (YPA) – Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem called for the municipal elections to be a step towards renewing the legitimacy of the Palestinian political system, commenting on the Deir al-Balah municipal elections held in the central Gaza Strip on Saturday.

Qassem told Anadolu Agency that this should be achieved through comprehensive elections for the Palestinian Legislative and National Councils, in addition to the presidential elections that have not been held for more than twenty years.

He described holding the municipal elections in Deir al-Balah as a positive step, stressing that it is the right of our people to choose their representatives in various fields, whether union, municipal, legislative, or presidential.

“We hope that the appropriate conditions will be created for holding elections in the remaining governorates of the Gaza Strip, and we appreciate the efforts of all parties in Gaza working to ensure the elections proceed with integrity and security despite the continued Israeli targeting,” he added.
