UK Complaint targets UAE vice president over Alleged Sudan links, raising risk of sanctions

LONDON, April 19 (YPA) – A legal complaint has been filed in the United Kingdom calling for an investigation into Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, owner of Manchester City, over alleged links to financing and arming Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces led by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, which has been accused of serious human rights violations.

According to British media, the complaint could trigger a complex legal process with potential consequences extending to club ownership, particularly if sanctions are imposed under English Premier League regulations, which set strict criteria for club owners.

Any possible measures could include asset freezes within the UK, travel restrictions, and limits on financial transactions, potentially affecting investments linked to the club and beyond.

Observers said such steps could impact the UAE’s broader economic and soft power presence in Europe.

The case places United Arab Emirates under scrutiny, highlighting tensions between its international investments and regional policies. It may also increase pressure on sponsors and partners, while raising the possibility of restrictions on the owner’s role in club management.

Analysts warned the situation could set a precedent for tighter oversight of foreign investment in European football, reflecting the growing intersection of sports, politics, and finance on the global stage.
