WHO chief warns of nuclear risk after strikes near Iran’s Bushehr plant

GENEVA, April 06 (YPA) – The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has issued a grave warning over the safety of Iran’s civilian nuclear infrastructure following strikes by the United States and “Israel” on the Iranian Bushehr nuclear plant.

In a post on the platform X, Tedros expressed deep concern following recent strikes on Iran’s nuclear and energy facilities, particularly the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.

He emphasized that targeting such sites risks triggering a catastrophic nuclear incident with long-term humanitarian consequences.

“I join the International Atomic Energy Agency in raising the alarm again over the safety of nuclear facilities in Iran,” Tedros said. “The latest incident involving the Bushehr nuclear power plant is a stark reminder: a strike could trigger a nuclear accident, with health impacts that would devastate generations.”

The warning comes in the wake of coordinated attacks carried out on Saturday, which not only struck the Bushehr facility but also targeted key petrochemical centers, including the Mahshahr and Bandar Imam special petrochemical zones—vital components of Iran’s economic and civilian infrastructure.
