MAHRA, April 05 (YPA) – The power grid went on Saturday completely out of service in the districts of Mahra Governorate and some areas of Hadramout, both of which are under the control of forces loyal to Saudi Arabia, as a result of running out of diesel quantities designated for operating power plants.
Sources in Mahra electricity authorities stated that the service interruption was due to the depletion of daily diesel quantities since last week. They confirmed that fuel shipments destined for the districts of Al-Masila, Sayhoot, Hawf, and Qishn are still detained on the blocked road between the districts of Al-Shihr and Al-Dis Al-Sharqiya in Hadramout due to a continuous “tribal blockade,” amid the silence of the Saudi-backed government.
The sources explained that the continued detention of the fuel transport locomotives by tribal gunmen led to the disruption of supplies and the complete shutdown of power plants in Mahra. They noted that the local authorities in the governorate have been unable to open the road and secure the passage of shipments, despite contacting the authorities loyal to Saudi Arabia in Hadramout.
In the same context, Al-Raydah and Qusay’ar district in eastern Hadramout witnessed a total power outage since dawn today, Saturday, for the same reason. Local sources attributed the crisis to the continuation of the tribal blockade, which demands the release of a detainee in the Central Prison in Mukalla city, leading to the disruption of truck traffic.
It is noteworthy that the Saudi-backed authorities and factions in Hadramout have been unable, for the sixth consecutive day, to open the road and end the tribal blockade that is holding dozens of cargo trucks and fuel tankers.
