Significant U.S. fuel price surge amid war with Iran

WASHINGTON, March 08 (YPA) – Gasoline and diesel prices in the United States are rising significantly due to the war with Iran restricting oil and fuel exports.

According to Reuters on Saturday, fuel prices jumped more than 10% this week as oil prices surged above $90 per barrel—the highest in years—exacerbating inflation’s toll on consumers.

On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump downplayed the gasoline price spike in a Reuters interview, saying, “If they go up, they go up.”

As of Friday, the average price of regular gasoline nationwide hit $3.32 per gallon (up 11% from last week and the highest since September 2024), per American Automobile Association data. Diesel reached $4.33 per gallon (up 15% from last week and the highest since November 2023).

States like Indiana and West Virginia saw even steeper increases, with prices rising 44.3 cents and 43.9 cents, respectively.
