ADEN, Feb. 20 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia has sent major military reinforcements from the “Al-Amaliqa Brigades” to the southern city of Aden following an attempted incursion at Al-Maashiq Palace by supporters of the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
Local sources reported that the reinforcements arrived early Friday via the coastal road from Lahj before moving directly to the Crater district to secure Al-Maashiq Palace, which serves as the headquarters of Shaya Al-Zindani’s government.
The sources added that the forces deployed around 200 military vehicles across key streets and strategic sites amid heightened security following armed clashes near the palace gate between STC supporters and members of Saudi-backed forces from (the Dera Al-Watan Forces and Al-Amaliqa Brigades).
The reinforcements also set up multiple checkpoints and closed off surrounding streets and areas with dozens of armed personnel and military vehicles, aiming to prevent further protests outside the palace.
Thursday night’s clashes left one person dead and nearly 20 others injured as demonstrators called for the Saudi-backed government to leave Aden.
