British Museum removes name “Palestine” from Middle Eastern maps

LONDON, Feb. 15 (YPA) – The British Museum of Antiquities, which houses artifacts from around the world, has removed the name “Palestine” from some maps and labels in its Middle East exhibits, in response to visitor surveys and a letter from the pro-Tel Aviv group “British Lawyers for Israel.”

According to a report published in The Telegraph on Sunday, the decision to remove the term “Palestine” from the London museum, which houses a collection of controversial artifacts, came in response to complaints received by the museum’s management.

It should be noted that some maps and labels relating to ancient Egypt and the Phoenicians showed the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea under the name “Palestine” and described some peoples as being “of Palestinian origin.”

Consequently, the museum’s management felt that the word “Palestine” was not appropriate as a historical geographical term and therefore decided to remove it.
