TEHRAN, Feb. 09 (YPA) – Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said that reducing 60% uranium enrichment is directly tied to the complete lifting of US sanctions.
He stated that raising the issue of reducing enrichment during the ongoing talks depends directly on whether Washington is prepared to lift the sanctions completely, stressing that this condition is a fundamental axis in any potential understanding.
In statements he made to journalists on the sidelines of the opening of the National Laboratory for Radiological and Electrical Safety, Eslami confirmed that cooperation between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency is still ongoing, but he accused the agency of not fulfilling its role completely regarding what he described as “the military attack on nuclear facilities under safeguards supervision,” considering that ignoring this issue is unacceptable as long as those facilities fall within its scope of supervision.
Meanwhile, Islami denied the validity of reports regarding the possibility of removing uranium from the country as part of the negotiation process, describing them as “speculation” promoted by pressure groups through media campaigns.
In addition, he emphasized that this proposal is not on the agenda and has not been officially discussed, despite the existence of suggestions from some countries, which he said came within the framework of supporting the negotiation process.
