The Israeli Prison Service has begun preparations to implement the death penalty law against Palestinian prisoners convicted of armed operations, following the law’s approval in its first reading, Hebrew media reported .
According to Israel’s Channel 13, the plan includes establishing a special facility to carry out executions, setting legal and administrative protocols, training designated personnel, and drawing on the experiences of countries that apply similar punishments, as part of practical preparations to activate the law if it is finally approved.
Under the plan being prepared by the so-called Israeli Prison Service, a separate complex will be established to carry out death sentences, referred to within the Israeli security system as the “Israeli Green Mile.”
According to the details, executions will be carried out by hanging, with three guards required to press the execution button simultaneously.
The teams assigned to carry out the executions will be formed on a voluntary basis only, and guards will undergo specialized training.
It was decided that the sentence would be carried out within a period not exceeding 90 days from the issuance of the final judicial ruling.
According to informed sources, the law is expected in its initial phase to be applied to those convicted from elite units involved in the events of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” on October 7, 2023, and later expanded to include those convicted of carrying out serious attacks in the West Bank.
As part of the preparations, a delegation from the Criminal Investigations Department is expected to travel in the near future to one of the East Asian countries to study the legal and regulatory aspects related to the implementation of the death penalty and benefit from its experience in this field.
In response, twelve United Nations experts last week warned of the dangers posed by the proposed law, calling on Israel to withdraw it immediately.
They emphasized that implementing the death penalty in the occupied Palestinian territories would constitute a blatant violation of international law and the right to life.
