Somali President: “Israel’s illegal interference in our sovereignty is a challenge to African continent”

MOGADISHU, Feb. 07 (YPA) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stated on Saturday that what he described as Israeli occupation intervention in his country’s sovereignty represents a “challenge to the entire African continent,” warning that such moves undermine regional stability.

The remarks were made during the opening of the “Al Jazeera Forum” in the Qatari capital, Doha, which discussed regional issues amidst global shifts.

The Somali President emphasized his country’s rejection of any attempts to change the existing international order through the “logic of force,” asserting that “illegitimate” interventions destabilize regional security.

These statements follow “Israel’s” recognition of the breakaway region of “Somaliland” in December 2025. The federal government in Mogadishu rejected this move, viewing it as a violation of its sovereignty, amid widespread regional and international criticism of the recognition.
