European monitors arrive at Rafah crossing ahead of planned reopening

GAZA, Jan. 27 (YPA) -A European monitoring team, along with Palestinian staff, arrived at the Rafah border crossing as part of preparations for its reopening, Hebrew media reported on Tuesday.

Hebrew media reported Tuesday that a European monitoring team, along with Palestinian staff, arrived at the Rafah border crossing ahead of its planned reopening.

Yedioth Ahronoth said the move is a preliminary step toward operating the crossing under mechanisms agreed upon by the relevant parties.

According to the reports, arrangements include daily lists of travelers provided by Egyptian authorities to Israeli authorities, which would then be reviewed by Israel’s Shin Bet security agency before allowing passage.

Israeli media site Walla cited Israeli sources saying the crossing could open Wednesday or Thursday in both directions.

The Rafah crossing is a vital lifeline for Gaza residents, particularly for humanitarian and medical cases, amid expectations for its full reopening under the recent agreements.
