Meteorology warns of cold wave as dust storm gradually eases

SANAA, Jan. 23 (YPA) -The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning said on Friday that the heavy dust wave affecting large parts of the country over the past 48 hours is expected to gradually subside, bringing a relative improvement in weather conditions.

At the same time, the center warned of a cold wave affecting several governorates.

“Cold conditions are expected in Saada, Amran, Sanaa, Dhamar, Bayda, western Jawf, southern Marib, and northern Ibb, extending to the highlands of Hajjah, Mahwit, Raymah, Taiz, Dhalea, Lahj, and Abyan, as well as the plateaus and deserts of Shabwa, Hadramout, and Mahra,” the  weather bulletin read.

The Meteorology Center urged citizens—especially the elderly, children, and the sick—to take precautions against cold weather in mountainous areas, deserts, and inland plateaus, particularly at night and in the early morning, warning of the risk of “cold shock.”

It advised farmers to take preventive measures to protect their crops and urged those traveling to colder areas to prepare adequately and follow safety precautions against the sharp drop in temperatures.
