Sayyed al-Houthi: From commemorating al-Sammad’s martyrdom to dismantling “aggression narrative”

SANAA, Jan. 22 (YPA) – The anniversary of the martyr Saleh al-Sammad’s martyrdom comes at a time of escalating suffering for the Yemeni people under the weight of an 11-year ongoing war by the Saudi-led coalition.

In his speech marking the occasion, Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi reviewed the prominent role of Martyr al-Sammad in the path of confronting the aggression, praising his sacrifices and positions that embody commitment to faith-based principles and sacrifice for the Yemeni cause.

Through this speech, this analysis highlights several key pillars that shed light on the grievances of the Yemeni people and the continuation of the battle against the regionally and internationally backed war.

The Contributions of Martyr al-Sammad

Sayyed al-Houthi’s speech expressed the status of Martyr al-Sammad in confronting the raging war, praising his dedication to serving the Yemeni people and maintaining faith-based values in the line of responsibility.

Al-Sammad was not merely a political leader; he was a symbol of the jihadist and liberation path embodied by the sacrifices of the entire Yemeni people. Through this commemoration, Sayyed al-Houthi placed all martyrs who gave their lives for freedom and dignity within this framework of appreciation, citing figures such as Professor Ahmed Sharaf al-Din, who fell along this liberationist path.

The Grievances of the Yemeni People

One of the most prominent themes in Sayyed al-Houthi’s speech was the “grievances” (Madhloumiyah) experienced by the Yemeni people, described as one of the greatest grievances of the modern era. Al-Houthi focused on the scale of crimes committed by the coalition, led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, in cooperation with the United States and the Israeli occupation entity.

These crimes included the total destruction of civilian facilities—ranging from homes, hospitals, and mosques to livestock facilities such as poultry farms. These violations represent war crimes against an entire nation, making Yemen’s grievance a cause that must be documented in international forums.

Sayyed Al-Houthi also highlighted the economic targeting of the Yemeni people through the suffocating blockade imposed on seaports and airports, depriving Yemenis of food, medicine, and fuel, thereby destroying the economy and impoverishing the population. These practices, he noted, constitute a form of genocide through starvation.

U.S. and Zionist Ambitions

In the latter part of his speech, al-Houthi touched on the American and “Israeli” schemes in the region, with the aggression on Yemen serving as one of its primary facets. Sayyed al-Houthi emphasized that the U.S. and the Israeli occupation entity seek hegemony over the region, pointing to the deliberate targeting of Yemeni resources, such as oil in Hadramout and Mahra provinces.

He added that the American enemy seeks to exploit Yemen’s strategic location overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Arabian Sea to control maritime corridors and regional resources.

Sayyed Al-Houthi continued by stating that the war on Yemen is part of a Zionist-American plot aimed at looting wealth and dominating the Yemeni people, with a clear attempt to turn Yemen into an occupied state, noting that the aggression on the Gaza Strip is part of the same scheme targeting the Islamic nation.

The Resilience of the Yemeni People

Despite these harsh conditions, Sayyed al-Houthi stressed that the resilience of the Yemeni people serves as a great lesson for future generations. Driven by faith-based identity and national awareness, Yemen has stood firm against the largest historical aggression on the country. This identity played a central role in the people’s ability to confront challenges and external conspiracies.

In conclusion, Sayyed al-Houthi pointed to the full awareness that this aggression is not only a military attack but an attempt to destroy Yemen as a sovereign state with a distinct identity. Therefore, victory in this war is viewed as the liberation of Yemen from the clutches of colonial powers and an assertion of the people’s right to self-determination and dignity.

Ultimately, Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi’s speech on the anniversary of al-Sammad martyrdom served as a reaffirmation of Yemen’s steadfast position. It once again underscored the scale of the suffering endured by the Yemeni people while exposing the U.S. and “Israeli” plans for regional hegemony. Amidst this raging war, the resilience of the Yemeni people remains the only path toward freedom and dignity.
