140 landmines from coalition’s remnants destroyed in Hodeida

HODEIDA, Jan. 19 (YPA) – About 140 anti-armed vehicles mines, which were left by the Saudi-led coalition, were destroyed in the al-Ehwadh area in al-Haly district of Hodieda province, as part of the ongoing clearance work to secure residential areas and traffic routes from the remnants of war.

Director of the Executive Center for Mine Action in Hodeida, Yahya Sabr, said on Sunday that the destruction operation was carried out by the second platoon after emergency and demolition teams completed the technical preparation of the mines for disposal.

He explained that the operation was necessary as the area is densely populated and contains several roads leading to large villages, posing a serious threat to civilians and their property.

Sabr noted that the operation was part of an ongoing campaign to facilitate the safe return of residents to areas cleared of mines and other remnants of war, stressing that the center continues its field activities despite significant obstacles and operational challenges.

He added that these humanitarian efforts are being carried out amid major difficulties, most notably limited financial support and logistical constraints, particularly given the expanding scale of mine and war-remnant contamination. He emphasized that work is continuing within the available capabilities to save lives, reduce civilian casualties, and mitigate the impact of contamination on affected communities.

The director of the executive center said that sustaining and expanding these efforts requires stronger humanitarian partnerships, as well as increased financial and logistical support commensurate with the scale of contamination, in order to accelerate land clearance and help build a safer future for affected societies.
