DAMASCUS, Jan. 18 (YPA) – Syrian forces in the Euphrates region have seized control of important oil and gas fields in Deir Ezzor province in the northeast of the country after clashes with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the Syrian army took control of several oil and gas fields in Deir Ezzor province, most notably the strategic al-Omar field, in addition to al-Tanek field, Conoco field, al-Jafra field, al-Azba field, Tayana, Jido, Malih, and Azraq fields.

Amid escalating events since clashes erupted yesterday between the Syrian army and the SDF, the Syrian government, reported that Arab tribes had seized control of the city of al-Shuhail in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, after the SDF withdrew from large areas.

It should be noted that videos circulating on social media documented the control of several cities and towns on the eastern bank of the Euphrates by armed members of Arab tribes.

Moreover, Waddah al-Mushrif, commander of the al-Basira Military Council, announced his defection from the SDF and his joining the Syrian army.

According to activists, Arab tribes managed to seize control of the town of Dhiban in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, in addition to liberating al-Hariji town after expelling the SDF from it.

In addition, the town of al-Baghouz, located near the Syrian-Iraqi border and administratively part of the city of al-Bukamal, also witnessed a similar liberation from the SDF’s grip.
