ADEN, Jan. 10 (YPA) – As Saudi Arabia moves to reorganize the political landscape in southeastern Yemen and fully exclude the UAE following the defeat and dissolution of its armed ally, indications suggest that the UAE is turning to street protests as a means of pressuring Saudi Arabia by mobilizing supporters of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), as seen in demonstrations held in Aden.
The demonstration at Al-Oroudh Square in Aden, which saw the participation of thousands of protesters from Lahj, Al-Dhale, and Abyan governorates, as well as supporters of the Transitional Council in Aden, was not spontaneous. But, it was organized in response to an official call by the Southern Transitional Council, with portraits of its leader Aidarus Al-Zubaidi displayed and slogans emphasizing their commitment to the ‘southern demands,’ as termed by the council.
The demonstrations reflect a clear Emirati determination to maintain influence in southern Yemen by destabilizing the situation and obstructing Saudi efforts to dismantle the Transitional Council and reshape the political landscape away from Abu Dhabi’s local allies.
Recent Emirati actions suggest that southern and eastern Yemen are heading toward greater political and security instability, as Abu Dhabi seeks to disrupt the local scene. This is worsening the daily hardships of citizens amid economic collapse, deteriorating living conditions, and a lack of basic services. Instead of moving toward stability and improving people’s lives, these provinces are being pushed into new crises, the burden of which falls on ordinary citizens, for whom the Saudi-led coalition shows little concern.
