GAZA, Dec. 22 (YPA) – The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights monitor warned that the Israeli occupation forces are deliberately using the winter season as a weapon as an additional means of destroying the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, by continuing to prevent the entry of temporary housing units and basic shelter materials.
In a statement, the organization urged the international community to exert immediate and decisive pressure to stop this policy without delay.
The statement warned that with the onset of winter, the Gaza Strip is on the verge of an imminent humanitarian catastrophe, as hundreds of structurally damaged houses are at risk of collapse for their residents in the absence of any safe or habitable housing alternatives.
It stressed that this reality has put the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians in direct danger, in the absence of any effective intervention to guarantee them safe shelter and preserve their right to life.
The statement pointed out that the UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing was required to make an official and urgent appeal to the Israeli authorities to demand an end to the ban on the entry of temporary housing and basic shelter supplies.
