Research center reviews UAE’s military agenda in Yemeni islands

FOLLOW-UP, Dec. 12 (YPA) – The “Mokha Center for Strategic Studies” reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE), during the war in Yemen, established multiple military airstrips and airports in strategic locations on the western coast and Socotra Archipelago, including the islands of Zuqar, Mayon, and Abd al Kuri, in addition to the Mocha Airport.

A research paper issued by the center yesterday, Thursday, stated that the goal of these military developments goes beyond the publicly declared objectives of the war, aiming instead to “enhance geopolitical influence and serve the expansionist agendas of the UAE and its international partners,” in addition to empowering the armed factions it created.

The study indicated that these steps have raised local and regional concerns, with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki expressing his fears, warning that foreign bases on the Yemeni islands could be an “entry point for chaos.”

The center also noted that the UAE established joint bases and maritime surveillance centers with the Zionist entity in those islands since 2020.
