Union of Imams in Senegal strongly condemns visit of Islamic delegation to “Israel”

DAKAR, Dec. 09 (YPA) – The Senegalese Union of Imams and Preachers strongly condemned the visit of a group of Muslim clerics to “Israel”.

The Union issued a statement commenting on the visit of a group of African clerics, including Senegalese, to “Israel”.

The statement emphasized that the Senegalese clerics participating in the delegation in no way represent the imams of the country or its people, pointing out that the visit clearly contradicts the official position of Senegal and the position of its religious scholars regarding Palestine.

It noted that Senegal has chaired the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People without interruption since its establishment in 1975.

Hebrew media reported that a group of imams and journalists from French-speaking West African countries were invited to Jerusalem as part of a program organized by the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog received the group, which included clerics and journalists from Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast, Benin, and Cameroon, on December 1.
