Protest rally held in Tbilisi against Dhabi-based Eagle Hills

TBILISI, Dec. 09 (YPA) – Hundreds of people gathered on Tuesday in a protest rally on Rustaveli Street in Tbilisi against the implementation of Housing and infrastructure projects the Dhabi-based Eagle Hills implemented in Georgia.

The Russian TASS news agency reported that the protesters blocked the street of the city.

Last October, the Georgian Minister of economy and sustainable development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and the founder of Eagle Hills, Mohammed Alabbar, signed an investment agreement worth 6.6 billion US dollars.

The main reason for the protest was the decision of the Georgian government to hide the details of the full agreement signed with the Emirati company, which raised the doubts of the opposition and activists about the transparency of the deal and the protection of Georgia’s national interests.

The agreement provided to build a joint project for large-scale construction in Tbilisi and the Black Sea resort of Gonio. The Georgian side will be a partner, owning a 33% stake in the joint venture.
