HODEIDA, Dec. 09 (YPA) – The Executive Center for Mine Action (ECMA), affiliated with the Sanaa government, announced on Tuesday the destruction of approximately 260 anti-vehicle mines—remnants of the war—in the Al-Ahwad area of Al-Hali district in Hodeida governorate.
The destruction and disposal operation was carried out in two phases, funded by and in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The mines were recovered from fields No. (1) and (2) and are all attributed to the remnants of the Saudi-led coalition’s weapons in the war on Yemen.
Brigadier General Ali Safra, the Executive Director of the ECMA, confirmed that the Center’s teams continue to work at a high pace to remove sources of danger and secure residential and agricultural areas, ensuring the safe return of citizens. He also praised the sacrifices made by the field teams to save lives and protect civilians from the dangers of mines.
Furthermore, Colonel Yahya Saber, Director of the ECMA branch in Hodeida, stated that clearance operations are ongoing in various contaminated areas as part of a plan to reduce the humanitarian risks posed by war remnants to the population.
