BERLIN, Dec. 05 (YPA) – Germany has sparked widespread controversy after receiving eight donkeys from the Gaza Strip and transporting them to parks and farms in the country, while refusing to admit wounded children from the Strip for treatment in its hospitals.
The ND-Aktuell news platform quoted an Israeli association called “Refuge for a New Beginning” as saying that it evacuated the donkeys by air via Belgium, with four going to Oppenheim Zoo in Rhineland-Palatinate, and the other four to the Ballermann Ranch in Lower Saxony.
The association confirmed that it has evacuated about 600 donkeys since the beginning of the war, a move that has drawn criticism for depriving local residents of a basic means of transportation.
For its part, the German government has maintained its position of refusing to admit wounded children from Gaza, asserting that medical assistance remains best provided within the Strip or in neighboring countries.
The World Health Organization indicates that thousands of children still need urgent care, amid the deterioration of medical infrastructure as a result of the war.
German Left Party MP Clara Binger criticized the government’s position, arguing that refusing to treat children on security grounds constitutes a disregard for basic human rights. She noted that the current situation complicates the implementation of any aid plan within the sector.
