In video: Floods in Indonesia leave over 500 dead and hundreds missing

JAKARTA, Dec. 02 (YPA) – An exceptionally rare tropical storm, named Cyclone Senyar, caused catastrophic landslides and flooding in Indonesia’s North Sumatra province, with homes swept away and thousands of buildings submerged.

Reuters reported that floods and landslides have killed more than 500 people dead and nearly 400 others missing.

Entire homes were swept away by the torrential rains, and thousands of buildings and residential areas were inundated. Life in many districts ground to a halt as roads collapsed and communications and power lines were cut.

Rescue teams have been using helicopters to reach isolated areas to deliver aid.

The cyclone’s impact was not limited to Indonesia; it also hit Sri Lanka, where around 200 people were killed and more than 500,000 others were affected.
