Sanaa condemns Facebook’s decision to block Yemeni pages on social media platforms

SANAA, Nov. 25 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based Ministry of Information strongly condemned on Tuesday Facebook’s decision to block and close a large number of Yemeni pages in media outlets.

The ministry stressed, in an official statement, that this hostile step would not succeed in “gagging mouths and obscuring the truth”, noting that the goal behind it is America and Israeli occupation, as part of their preparations for the next round of aggression against the Yemeni people, after failing to dissuade it from the humanitarian position in support of Gaza.

The statement said that the ban came in the context of an attempt to clear the digital arena of free voices, in conjunction with campaigns aimed at distorting and demonizing the Yemeni people, in additional to isolating them from regional and international sympathy.

It considered that resorting to closing accounts represented a clear testimony to the effectiveness and influence of the Yemeni media front, stressing that the failure of the American and Zionist in the media war was the motive behind the attempt to block the voice of Yemen from the world.

The ministry’s statement called on the free people of the world and the authorities concerned with the protection of freedoms to condemn this step and support the Yemeni people in delivering their message, stressing that it would not stand idly by and would work with the competent authorities to take appropriate measures.

It described Facebook’s actions as a form of systematic hostility and an attempt to silence the free national media that works to reveal facts.

The condemnation came after Meta (Facebook and Instagram’s parent company) removed over 200 Yemeni accounts and pages.
