Aden government plans to transfer $11 million out of Yemen

ADEN, Nov. 19 (YPA) – The coalition-backed Aden government is planning to urgently transfer $11 million from the total Saudi aid to officials residing outside Yemen, under the heading of “monthly living allowance”.

Local sources familiar the matter said that the decision coincided with the start of disbursing some of the salaries of employees that have been suspended since last June, amid severe living crises that threaten the stability of thousands of families in Aden and the southern provinces.

The sources explained that $11 million of the announced Saudi grant of $90 million had been transferred during the past two days to pay some of the employees’ salaries.

They pointed out that the continued flow of foreign currency to outside of Yemen was contributing to the depletion of the Central Bank in Aden’s limited foreign exchange reserves.

The coalition-backed Aden government have been facing its worst economic crisis in years, due to local leaders and officials seizing all revenues from resources in the areas under their control and diverting them to their own interests.
