ABU DHABI, Nov. 18 (YPA) – A British newspaper reported on Monday that Abu Dhabi has arrested Nader Maryoud, a prominent Sudanese civil society activist and spokesperson for the Resistance Committees movement in Al-Salha neighborhood of Omdurman, about two weeks ago.
Maryoud’s family informed the Middle East Eye website that he was targeted for his public criticism of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary force engaged in war with the Sudanese Army. His arbitrary detention was condemned by his brother, Nizar Maryoud, and the Al-Salha Resistance Committee, which had issued a statement against the RSF shortly beforehand.
Maryoud is currently held among dozens of Sudanese and foreign activists in Emirati prisons, including the former leader of the Forces of Freedom and Change, Mohamed Farouk Salman. Nizar Maryoud called on the UAE to immediately and unconditionally release his brother and ensure his safety.
