Pakistan arrests 4 linked to terror cell after Islamabad attack

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 14 (YPA) – Pakistani authorities announced on Friday the arrest of four individuals suspected of belonging to a “terrorist cell” affiliated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), whose leadership is based in Afghanistan.

The arrests follow the suicide bombing that struck the capital Islamabad last Tuesday in front of a court complex, resulting in the death of 12 people.

Pakistani authorities confirmed that the cell was receiving instructions and guidance from the movement’s leadership located inside Afghanistan throughout all planning and execution stages of the attack.

This bombing is considered the first major attack to hit the capital, Islamabad, in nearly three years.

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), or the Pakistani Taliban, is a militant organization formed in 2007 that unites various Islamist groups along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. It is designated as a terrorist organization by the UN and Pakistan and aims to fight the Pakistani state and impose its version of Sharia law. While it has pledged allegiance to the Afghan Taliban, it operates independently and is distinct from the group that governs Afghanistan
