ISLAMABAD, Nov. 11 (YPA) – Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Tuesday that 12 people were killed in a suicide bombing near a court complex in the capital, Islamabad.
Videos on social media showed flames and plumes of smoke rising into the sky from the remains of a burning vehicle behind a security barrier.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif described the incident as a “suicide bombing.”
In a post on the X platform, President Zardari expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, praising the members of the law enforcement agencies.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani Defense Minister considered the incident a “wake-up call.”
He said: “We are at war. Anyone who thinks that the Pakistani army is only fighting this war in the border areas with Afghanistan, or in the remote areas of Balochistan, should realize that today’s bombing at the Islamabad court is a real wake-up call.”
“In such an atmosphere, it would be absurd to place great hopes on the success of negotiations with the rulers of Kabul,” he added.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing, which comes hours after a suicide attack last night targeted a military college in Pakistan, killing and wounding ten soldiers. Islamabad authorities have pointed the finger at the Afghan Taliban Movement.
