New York elections begin, Trump threatens pro-Palestinian candidate

NEW YORK, Nov. 04 (YPA) – Official elections begin, on Tuesday, in New York City to choose its mayor, in a race considered one of the most controversial political contests this year, with the young candidate Zahran Mamdani emerging as one of the leading contenders for the position.

Predictions indicate that Mamdani is close to achieving an exceptional victory that could bring about an unprecedented political shift in the American landscape, as he competes for the leadership of one of the most important cities in the world, a center of finance, media, and political influence.

What distinguishes Zahran Mamdani in the American political scene is his clarity and courage in expressing his position on Palestine.

Mamdani believes that justice cannot be selective, and he emphasizes that defending the Palestinian people is as much a moral issue as it is a political one.

In the same context, US President Donald Trump threatened to cut off federal funding to New York City if the Democratic candidate Mamdani wins the mayoral race scheduled for today, Tuesday.

Trump said Mamdani would leave the city “with zero chance of succeeding or even surviving,” in a post on Truth Social.

“If Mamdani wins, it is unlikely I will provide any federal funding, beyond the minimum required by law,” he added.
