UN Rapporteur: “Trump’s Gaza plan is the worst insult I’ve ever seen”

NEW YORK, Oct. 29 (YPA) – The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, described US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan as “the worst insult I have ever seen.”

In an interview with the British newspaper iPepper, she added, “I don’t trust this peace process because I don’t trust the people responsible for it. I don’t trust an agreement based on a violation of international law.”

Albanese emphasized that Israel “does not want Palestinians in Gaza, and it has been clear about that before.” She also criticized the fact that the agreement is called a ceasefire because what is happening is “not a war between two states and two armies, but an assault on an occupied people who have been held in a ghetto since 1948.”

The agreement is expected to lead to the continuation of the “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, according to what the newspaper’s South Africa correspondent, Joe Walsh, quoted Albanese as saying.

The UN rapporteur concluded in the interview that “it is simply unreasonable for a state referred to two international courts on charges of genocide and war crimes to be granted the authority to determine the future of the Palestinians.”
